A proposal in the making. The Mama Initiative is still on the drawing board, taking shape with the partners we are courting. What follows describes the need and our intent — not work already delivered.
The Idea

No woman left behind for want of a road

Uganda still records 189 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births — down from 336 in 2016, but still far above where it should be, and far higher for women who cannot reach a facility. Poor roads, few health workers and long distances delay or block timely care.

The Mama Initiative would deploy fully equipped mobile maternal units to underserved communities, aligned with Uganda’s RMNCAH strategy — carrying antenatal care, safe delivery in designated units, postnatal follow-up, family planning and mental health support to women where they live.
